Community Service Learning, Family Fun Days and Field Trips

These character-building and family strengthening activities are voluntary options sponsored by One Island in cooperation with the Kohala Green School.

  • Family Fun Days happen on Fridays or weekends and welcome all members of your family to come enjoy a great learning experience with fellow home schooling families and friends of the green School. Papermaking, tamale making – a wide range of activities. We keep the costs as low as possible for materials and instructor time for these gatherings.
  • Service Learning – encouraged where age appropriate. While the School will help coordinate service learning placements, it is up to the family to provide reliable transportation to and from  the student’s chosen project site.  We encourage participation at several community and farm sites each year for fullest enrichment. Average time involvement is 2 hours a month. Locations may be in your neighborhood or with One Island in the community, based on transportation abilities.
  • Field trips are optional family enrichment and bonding days and group rates will help keep the costs down, or will be offered at no cost when possible.  Carpooling is encouraged. Dates, times and costs will be announced in advance.
