Applying

Notice: All spaces have been filled as of January 2012. There is no known date for future funding but we do invite interested households and farms to put their names on the waiting list by filling out a simple survey form. We continue to search for additional funding on our community’s behalf.

HOW TO APPLY     Should new funding be secured, and we have determined you are in an eligible location, you will be placed on a pre-qualified list and contacted when the next Application Meeting cycle will be held. Each Applicant is asked to attend two application preparation meetings to help you develop an informed Energy Plan.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY    The first meeting will have you sign-up as a pre-qualified Applicant and give you an account on the optional online community forum. At this meeting, we will provide you with the information you need to conduct an energy use assessment in your home – including worksheets and an appliance meter that measures use per individual appliance or piece of equipment. You will also learn easy techniques that you can begin using right away to lower your energy bills. Please bring your three most recent electric bills to this meeting to help you understand your current costs and trends. We will also host a round table to share energy needs and tips with your neighbors. Refreshments will be provided.

ENERGY PLANNING   Several weeks later, at the second meeting, you will bring back the meter and completed energy use worksheets. We will assist you in analyzing your findings, in identifying problems that you can request grant or loan funds to solve, and we will help you prepare a short  Energy Plan that is a component of your grant and/or loan application. By the end of this meeting – which includes lunch – you will have all of the information you need to complete and submit your funding application.

APPLICATION REVIEW   Once you have submitted an application by one of the deadlines, which usually happen twice a year, your proposed Energy Plan will be reviewed by a panel of local residents and we will notify those whose proposals were approved with in 120 days of applying. Applications that might need a little work to be approved will receive technical assistance to modify and resubmit. Once an applicant is notified they are an Awardee, they will receive an Award Agreement to sign and return to WHSEP with in 30 days.

EQUIPMENT PRUCHASES   Applicants select the best vendor and equipment that meets their needs. A request for voucher will be sent in to WHSEP so we can then arrange the purchase of your approved equipment or practice. You will be given the voucher and can take it to your vendor/s who will then contact WHSEP regarding payment, delivery, and disposal of any equipment to be discarded. Our goal is to have a voucher in the Awardees hands on an average of 150 days after application if all steps are completed.
