Voluntary Simplicity – Living Green Dinner Theme June 7th

green-hawaii-cropWe invite you to join a LIVING GREEN Learning Circle that will meet regularly at One Island to discuss, discern, and take home and implement Green Living practices that work in our homes and workplaces, schools and communities. Each month we will introduce innovative ideas, tools, and practices in order to share with one another options that  we can select from – and add to.

To Launch the LIVING GREEN potluck / learning circle theme, we will be  introduced to a seminal book “VOLUNTARY SIMPLICITY” by Duane Elgin and another book that brings it home for us right here on the Big Island “GREEN HAWAII”.  Everyone has a Green practice to share – come tell us yours and learn from your neighbors.

Sustainable Saturday – Medicine Wheels, May 14th

a_medicine_wheel_gardenOne of the most compelling aspects of living in Hawaii is
enjoying the verdant greenery, beautiful plants, and many
textures and lighting of our landscape.

Takes our breath away each and every day.

Cultures around the world practice focusing on nature as a source of wonder and inspiration. One of the most universal
built landscape features that span many cultures are
Medicine Wheels. These circular forms draw our attention to
the subtle, magical, qualities of walking on this earth.
They connect us to the land, and to the sky and heavens.

One Island is re-establishing its first Medicine Wheel
this Saturday and we invite you to join us in this celebration
and work party. Our first Medicine Wheel is focused on growing
and honoring healing, medicinal plants from the four
corners of the world. We gather at 8:30am  and wrap up by
12:30, followed by a yummy lunch for our volunteers.

In the future, follow-up Medicine Wheel Days will introduce
sacred geometry, Native wisdom, and Celtic viewpoints
about the different Medicine Wheels around the world.

Come learn how to make your own Medicine Wheel no matter what
the size of your garden. From 3′ to 30′, a Wheel can bring
relaxation and restoration to your  life –even food!

Hope to see you in the Wheel.

Please RSVP to hawaii at one-island.org
