VISITOR Programs and Resources – North and West Hawaii

Farm-based learning  Our half day, full day and one week ag-tourism programs offer our guests a chance to immerse themselves in a variety of learning experiences that feature hands-on learning activities. From picking coffee and sampling brewing techniques, from local-grown fruit and food tastings to making your own chocolate products, the agricultural experience at the farm offers a complete plant-to-plate experience. We also offer tours to other local farms including the only chocolate factory in Hawaii, local coffee mills, macadamia nut orchards, and tropical fruit showcases.

Health and Wellness    Hawaii has a long tradition of gentle healing practices and we invite you to come discover, experience and enjoy a sampling of these arts. From healing plants gathered right on our farm, to the long, deep stroke of a lomi-lomi massage, Hawaiian healing arts offer us a chance to rest, relax and restore. Around the world, many traditional healing arts are emerging as proactive steps to ensure a healthier lifestyle. We offer workshops on making your own body care products, cooking healthy foods, yoga and dance, women’s retreats, weight loss, and family wellness.

Green Living    How do we make changes in our own lives that make a positive contribution to solving our energy, environmental, and climate challenges? What tools and technologies are available to us? How do we determine what works best for our own household or workplace needs? Come see examples of energy saving renewable energy practices, tools, building materials and appliances available where ever you live or work. There ARE solutions available today that are good for the environment, offer both resource and cost savings, and have an eye on the future that we define with every choice we make. By the end of this workshop you will have a home or workplace energy saving plan, a clear picture of the costs and savings options, and a realistic implementation plan. Special Green Building workshops are also offered to promote smarter home construction options.

Mauka to Makai Field Trips  Several times a year we invite local scientists and environmental conservation experts to guide us on a full day exploration of a local watershed. We head up into the mountain elevations (mauka) in the morning and learn about the multi-impacts the watershed is facing. Then we head down to the sea (makai) to witness and explore the marine impacts from the watershed. Flora, fauna, geology, hydrology and human impacts are always an illuminating learning experience.

Youth Programs     One Island is a great learning lab for young students. We have enriching historic and ecosystem activities right in our neighborhood and farm-based / renewable energy hands-on projects that invite young guests to walk-the-talk of green living. We feature a mountain-to-sea watershed study workshop for small groups in 1-6 day sessions, including upper elevation forest hiking and seaside camping. For families with adults wanting a full-day private health and wellness retreat, we offer fun one-day learning adventures for the kids. Year round we also host an online learning community that keeps our young guests connected to the great learning resources One Island offers.
