Green Building Tour and Tamale Making, March 8th

With Tamale Making Class option, Sunday March 8th

The boldly dramatic Hi’ilani EcoHouse is our tour site on March 8th in Honoka’a. Built by two sustainability-minded couples who joined forces with an inventive designer, the house employs special green building materials and design techniques to conceive and build a dramatic perch overlooking the Pacific. This 4,000 square foot carbon-neutral home is worth a journey from around the island to see its innovative materials, structural design, interior finishing, energy efficiency, and green living concepts.

Suggested tour donation $15, with tamale plate $25.

tamalesTamale Magic    We have a culinary experience to share! We’ll be hosting a tamale making class using organic grains and sweet and savory ingredients from noon-2pm preceding the tour. All set to fun Latin music. Yum! Workshop fee is $25 and includes all ingredients to take home four tamales. Tour is free for workshop participants.

Hawaiian Hand Made Paper Book Making Class Feb 8th

Sunday February 8th 3-5pm in Hawi

Come enjoy the beautiful color and textures of handmade paper made from Hawaiian plants and learn to cover writing journals that you can take home to use or give as gifts. Artist Susan O’Malley is an expert papermaker and will lead this fun ‘green living’ workshop. Participant will make 4 books. Follows the Green Think Tour in the Algood Barn in Hawi. Bamboo Building Tour, Jan 11th

We had over 30 happy folks show up for the delightful afternoon of Bamboo Building introduction at the mind boggling LightWave Pavilion in Holualoa, with great music by Bolo, and delicious locally grown foods and drinks. Mahalo to the Boranians for building this art form and designer Leimana Pelton’s stroke of genius, and to Bolo for his original song writing. Green living at its finest!
